Hours: 40 hours per week FTE, Exempt
Salary: We offer a competitive salary, including bi-lingual and dual certification stipends; plus

Reports to: Executive Director
Education and Experience:
· Required: Bachelor’s Degree with concentration in Special Education / Low Vision Therapy or related field; Master’s Degree in the areas of special education or rehabilitation of the visually impaired, concentration in low vision, or ample experience with low vision optical aids or low vision clinic; and Certification (CLVT)
· Dual certification (COMS, CVRT or CAITS) preferred
· Bi-lingual (Spanish-English) preferred
· Minimum one-year experience working with the visually impaired; preferred five years of work experience
· Additional educational background and/or work experience in other areas of Blind Rehabilitation and working with the elderly is a plus

· Ability to think independently, problem solve, and execute assigned tasks, customarily and routinely exercise discretion and independent judgement
· Ability to counsel in a caring manner while also being able to balance agency policy with individual perceptions and sensitivity to clients
· Strong professional communication skills
· Proficiency with MS Office suite produces; Strong report writing and computer skills
· Knowledge of visual system, eye conditions and their implications
· Knowledge of components of Low Vision Evaluation
· Knowledge of optical & non-optical equipment and intervention strategies
· Knowledge of how to plan & implement an Individualized Vision Rehabilitation Plan
· Knowledge of how to manage practice & resources / clinical practice competencies
· Knowledge of assistive technology and software relating to visual impairment
· Strong professional communication skills
· Proficiency with MS Office suite produces
· Must be familiar with the blindness community and professional resources, as well as standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the vision rehabilitation field
· Must have a valid California driver’s license, access to your own reliable transportation, and insurance. Mileage reimbursement at current IRS rate
· Acquire appropriate CEUs in order to maintain certification
· Must have current TB test, CPR certification, and HIPAA training
· Willingness to do what is needed to be done
Responsibilities:
Coordinate Low Vision Services
· Work closely with the Low Vision Clinic Optometrist, monitor supplies, provide follow-up to the Clinic when appropriate
· Work closely with the Intake, Outreach and Care Coordinator for scheduling, paperwork, fee collection, record keeping
· Perform new client intake, as assigned
· Coordinate referral or connection to other service providers and resources, as needed
· Maximize the safety, functionality and independence of clients
· Conduct thorough evaluation and assessment to determine low vision needs
· Work with client and staff to create Individualized Vision Rehabilitation Plan and provide services to meet goals and achieve successful outcomes
· Train clients in the use of low vision aids and devices in areas of communication, personal management, recreation and travel
· Complete necessary paperwork for Low Vision Clinic
· Supervise Assistive Technology Center; serve as a liaison to vendors and maintain current devices for the AT Center
· Maintain & monitor optical aids inventory
· Document progress/outcomes and complete all reporting in accordance with established guidelines
· Maintain electronic documentation (and paper as needed) in accordance with established guidelines
· Stay current on trends and adaptive equipment in the field
· Provide input toward program/service improvements and/or assist with developing new programs/services
· Other duties as assigned
Public Relations
· Liaison to community resources concerning low vision services
· Participate in presentations and in-service workshops
Networking
· Work with other agencies and individuals to promote the goals of BVIC and clients

The Blind & Visually Impaired Center of Monterey County, Inc. (aka: BVIC; Blind Center) has served Monterey County residents since 1971. It offers a complete spectrum of services that help people adapt to the loss of sight. The majority of our clients are seniors experiencing age related vision loss. Our services are designed for the individual needs, abilities and goals of each person and are offered by our professional specialists in the comfort of your home, community and at the BVIC. Services include Training in Orientation & Mobility, Independent Living Skills, Visual Rehabilitation Services, Support Services, Information and Referral, Assistive Technology and the Marjorie McNeely Low Vision Clinic. The Certified Low Vision Therapist, Certified Orientation & Mobility Special and Rehabilitation Assistant provide outreach. An Optometrist who specializes in low vision provides functional low vision exams. The BVIC is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.
