A.     Position Requirements

·         Knowledge & Education

·         Master’s Degree in rehabilitation, orientation & mobility, occupational therapy, or related field.  Experience working with older adults and individuals with vision loss.

Skills

§  Experience instructing individuals with disabilities.

§  Familiarity with assistive technology related to vision loss.

§  Strong organizational skills.

§  Ability to multitask and adapt to a given situation.

§  Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

§  Proficient in MS Office Software (Excel, Outlook, and Word).

 

B.      Essential Job Functions

1.      Complete any goals, objectives, and written reports related to State Grant requirements.

·         Conduct intake assessments, develop independent living plans, and provide adjustment counseling through support groups and one-on-one interactions.

·         Provide individuals with resources and information on age-related eye diseases.

·         Demonstrate and instruct individuals on the use of low vision aids, equipment, and techniques.

·         Coordinate patient care with the Center’s other Low Vision clinical staff.

·         Complete program quarterly and year-end reports.

·         Attend Admission, Review and Exit (ARE) meetings as needed to provide input and feedback on individuals served.

2.      Internal and External Interactions

  • Works with low vision optometrist to coordinate vision and rehabilitation services seamlessly.
  • Consult with vocational rehabilitation counselors, other referral sources, school systems, and vendors; Increase and understand requirements of referral sources and use professional knowledge to obtain satisfactory results for individuals served.
  • Work with various community organizations to provide quality services to the individuals served through the program; collaborate on exhibits, workshops, and presentations.
  • Participate in committees serving the blind population.

 

3.      Other Center Functions

§  Participate in employee meetings, training, and activities.

§  Support Center fundraising events.

§  Maintain CPR and First Aid certification offered by the Center.

§  Maintain confidentiality of all Center, employee, and patient/client activities.

§  Actively participate in direct marketing of the Center.

§  Other duties as requested.

·         Prioritize own work

·         Develop long-range objectives and plans to meet job duties

·         Check the quality and timeliness of own work

·         Determine additional training needed to improve own work performance

 

D.     Office Equipment Used

·         Telephone, voice mail, computer, copier, scanner, printer, fax machine, shredder

 

E.       Physical Requirements

·         Understand what others say to you.

·         Work with individuals with disabilities.

·         Hear and speak on the phone.

·         Ability to sit for long periods.

·         Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
