Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Master's Degree in Education preferred
  • Certification as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI) OR Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet timelines
  • Ability to evaluate data, align evaluation results to improve program of services
  • Ability to plan and implement meetings, conferences, and professional development sessions
  • Subject matter expertise in supporting students with visual impairments as it relates to identification, evaluation, and service provision

Experience:

  • Three or more years school-based or related experience required
  • Experience as a TVI, COMS, or related professional supporting students with visual impairment preferred

Specific Responsibilities and Duties for the Vision Services Consultant:

  • Serve as a resource and reference point to LEAs/SSAs for current information regarding education of students with visual impairments
  • Represent Region 10 on statewide projects and initiatives related to supporting students with visual impairments.
  • Collaborate with LEAs and TSBVI to conduct annual Regional VI Registration
  • Create and maintain partnerships with community partners (HHSC, TWC, local universities, etc)
  • Provide assistance to LEAs that will ensure ongoing compliance with legal regulations and statutes related to students with visual impairments
  • Coordinate and monitor website for DB/VI program
  • Plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate efficient Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) events Plan, facilitate, and coordinate all steps for offering professional development sessions, institutes, conferences related to supporting students with visual impairments
  • Seek on-going development of professional skills as appropriate to the job assignment Maintain a strong knowledge of evidence-based practices and current research
  • Remain current in research related to adult learners in order to meet their needs
  • Create and provide professional learning opportunities using a variety of delivery methods Collaborate with consultants across Region 10 to provide information and training opportunities for regional professionals
  • Assist in development of annual budget to project program needs
  • Complete purchasing processes in accordance with local, state, and federal purchasing guidelines to purchase necessary materials
  • Maintain work calendar of commitments to LEA partners and internal events
  • Attend meetings related to job duties

Salary: $68,000-$92,000 Salary estimate is based on experience and skill set.
