Compensation:
- In accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
Role Summary
As a Vision Rehabilitation Instructor, you will be pivotal in supporting children, youth, and families facing life’s toughest challenges. Whether you provide hands-on case management, help to develop life skills, or provide emotional support, your work will directly impact the lives of those we serve.
What We’re Looking For:

- Experience working in social services, education, mental health, or related fields (preferred but not required)

How you will Impact Change:
- Teaches Braille, when appropriate, using electronic note takers with refreshable Braille displays.
- Writes monthly reports and progress reports for each student and deliver these reports promptly as they are due.
- Provides instruction in using Assistive Technology hardware, including but not limited to personal computers with speech, refreshable Braille displays, laser printer, Braille printer, and portable computer note-takers.
- Provides instruction in the use of Assistive Technology hardware, including but not limited to: screen access programs, software that accesses Windows environment, Braille translation software, reading program for scanner system.
- Prepares case notes on DR consumer progress and keep the notes on the shared drive in the student folder each week.
- Provides instruction in independent living skills, including, but not limited to: cooking, cleaning, and care of clothing.
Qualifications
Education and Credentials
- At a minimum, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a related field is required.
- Training and/or certifications in computer literacy with adaptive technology for the blind and visually impaired is preferred.
- Past accomplishments of providing instruction to the visually impaired in braille, computer technology, and independent living skills are required.
- Knowledge of typing, braille, assistive technology, and independent living skills, and the ability to teach blind and visually impaired adults.
- Knowledge of and ability to instruct blind and visually impaired individuals using braille, assistive technology, and independent living skills equipment.
- Knowledge of related office equipment for instructional purposes.
- Ability to oversee instruction in braille, assistive technology, and independent living skills.
- Willingness and ability to make frequent field visits, attend meetings, conferences and other job related events away from headquarters. If driving a personal vehicle, must be approved by our agency’s automobile insurance carrier
