Metrolina Association for the Blind (MAB) founded in 1934 is a non-profit organization located in Charlotte, NC. MAB provides an array of vision rehabilitative services. “Our mission is to reduce, prevent or eliminate the daily challenges experienced by people living with blindness or visual impairment, and to facilitate the personal growth and development of such individuals.” 

We are searching for a Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist. The CVRT is responsible for providing Vision Rehabilitation Therapies, resources and support to clients.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide Vision Rehabilitation Therapy to patients and maintain timely records.
  • Provide data to Director VRS, Program Coordinator, President/CEO and Grants Manager on request for grant support. 
  • Manage and update practice management and client management systems as needed in a timely manner.
  • Attend public education events as requested, discuss MAB services or provide presentations.
  • Lead/Assist with Mini-Center classes for clients 
  • Develop personalized rehabilitation plans for clients, assess their functional abilities, and deliver tailored training and support across diverse areas.
  • Attend regular staff meetings
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine clients' functional abilities, needs, and goals.
  • Collaborate with other vision professionals, such as other therapists, ophthalmologists, optometrists and social workers/case managers, to ensure a holistic approach to client care.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • VRT Master’s degree and/or Certificate from an accredited college or university; related experience and/or training preferred.
  • For those practicing, an ACVREP or equivalent certificate is required.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Windows (i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
  • Client Management System (CMS) Database
  • Strong knowledge of vision rehabilitation techniques, principles, and adaptive strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of visual impairments.
  • Proficiency in training clients on various electronic devices, assistive technologies, and low-vision aids.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload of clients effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and manage documentation.
  • Empathy, patience, and a positive attitude when working with clients facing challenges.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to adjust rehabilitation plans based on individual client progress and feedback.

Salary is based on experience and education.

The MAB work week is 37.5 hours. Typically 9am-5pm Monday through Friday. This can be flexible. This is a full time, year round position with benefits. Benefits include paid time off, sick leave, health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, short and long term disability insurance. This is not a virtual position.
