Teaching Faculty I in Visual Disabilities (12 Month Salary)

The Visual Disabilities Program in the School of Teacher Education at Florida State University invites applications for an instructional position at the rank of Teaching Faculty I in Visual Disabilities. We seek a colleague to collaborate with and support the Visual Disabilities Program in its commitment to preparing high-quality professionals to provide services to individuals with visual impairments as teachers of students with visual impairments and orientation and mobility specialists.

 

The College of Education and Health and Human Sciences, the School of Teacher Education, and the Visual Disabilities program strive to develop a deep understanding of, and respect for, our students and colleagues. Our goal is to prepare teaching professionals who not only transform the lives of their students, but also seek to improve their schools, communities, academic disciplines, and professions.

 

Responsibilities

•              Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Visual Disabilities;

•              Serve on graduate student committees;

•              In collaboration and coordination with program faculty, support the Visual Disabilities Program and Orientation and Mobility Specialization through activities including but not limited to: (a) advising and mentoring, (b) coordinating field experiences (i.e., practicum and internship), (c) supervising field experiences (i.e., practicum and internship), (d) actively participating in recruitment efforts;

•              Provide service to schools, the University, Department, College, and the profession;

•              Grow and support existing partnerships/relationships with regional providers of services to individuals with visual impairments and national colleagues;

•              Prepare grant proposals to potential funding agencies; and

•              Collaborate with Program faculty and state stakeholders to enhance and expand the Visual Disabilities program.

 

Qualifications

•              Master’s degree in visual disabilities, special education, or a related field, with an emphasis in orientation and mobility

•              ACVREP certification in Orientation and Mobility (COMS)

•              Experience teaching orientation and mobility methods courses

•              Three-years experience teaching orientation and mobility to children and/or adults with visual impairments

•              Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

•              K–12 certification or endorsement as a teacher of students with visual impairments and/or orientation and mobility specialist

•              Three years of experience as a teacher of students with visual impairments

•              Experience teaching visual disabilities methods courses

•              Experience mentoring pre-service and in-service teachers

•              Successful grant management and writing

•              Involvement in state and national professional organizations

 

Considerations

This is a Faculty position.

 

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.
